New Furnace Order Demands Unique Hot Zone

Solar Manufacturing announces an order from a medical tubing manufacturer in Eastern PA for a horizontal loading, vacuum heat treating production furnace.  With a maximum operating temperature of 2500°F and a weight capacity of 8000lbs, this furnace system is designed for high performance, low maintenance and energy efficient results.

Used for the heat treating and annealing of medical tubing coils, the uniquely sized, round hot zone measures 12 feet deep with a working diameter of 5 ½ feet.  A .040” Flex Shield hot face is backed by four layers of ½” graphite felt insulation. Thin, durable, graphite heating elements are mounted cylindrically in the hot zone and are divided into multiple trim zones.  The high alloy, stainless steel tubing coils will be supported on a removable, saddle-like work fixture inside the hot zone to retain the shape of the tubing coils without distortion or sticking.

The vacuum furnace will consist of an external gas quenching system utilizing a 100-HP motor for high velocity gas quenching.  The chamber’s front door uses a pneumatically operated autoclave locking ring to facilitate positive pressure quench to 15 psig (2 bar).  A 35” Varian diffusion pump allows for high vacuum performance of 1 x 10-5 Torr.

Solar Manufacturing manufactures vacuum heat treating and brazing furnaces and offers replacement hot zones for various vacuum furnace brands.
